Will Your iPhone Get iOS 27? Supported Models, Apple Intelligence and Resale Value

Will Your iPhone Get iOS 27? Supported Models, Apple Intelligence and Resale Value

Will Your iPhone Get iOS 27? Supported Models, Apple Intelligence and Resale Value

Yes, a surprisingly large number of older iPhones will support iOS 27. Apple has confirmed compatibility all the way back to the iPhone 11 family and iPhone SE (2nd generation). However, there is an important catch: getting iOS 27 does not mean your iPhone will get all of its headline Apple Intelligence and new Siri AI features.

That distinction matters if you own an older iPhone and are deciding whether to keep it for another year, pass it on, or sell it while it still has useful resale value.

Apple unveiled iOS 27 at WWDC26 in June and says the software update will arrive this autumn. The company has already published its official compatibility list, so we no longer need to rely on rumours about which existing devices survive another upgrade cycle.

For UK owners, the interesting question is no longer simply “Will my iPhone get iOS 27?”

It is also:

“Will my iPhone get the parts of iOS 27 that I actually want?”

Quick answer: iPhone 11 and newer models are on Apple's official iOS 27 compatibility list, along with iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. However, Apple Intelligence and Siri AI require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later.

Which iPhones will get iOS 27?

Apple's official iOS 27 compatibility list is broader than some owners may expect.

As of August 2026, Apple lists the following devices:

iPhone generationiOS 27 support
iPhone 17 familyYes
iPhone AirYes
iPhone 17eYes
iPhone 16 family and iPhone 16eYes
iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro MaxYes
iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro MaxYes
iPhone 13, 13 mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro MaxYes
iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro MaxYes
iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro MaxYes
iPhone SE (2nd generation and later)Yes

That means an iPhone 11 introduced back in 2019 remains inside Apple's main iOS compatibility window in 2026.

For owners of older phones, that is significant. Software support helps keep a handset useful for longer and gives a future buyer greater confidence that the phone has not immediately reached the end of its practical life.

You can check Apple's latest list directly on the official iOS 27 page.

Does iPhone 11 support iOS 27?

Yes. Apple officially lists the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max as compatible with iOS 27.

That makes the iPhone 11 family one of the most interesting groups in this year's update.

These are no longer new phones. Nevertheless, Apple has kept them inside the main iOS 27 compatibility list.

For somebody who uses an iPhone 11 for calls, messaging, photography, banking, navigation and ordinary apps, continued software support may be a good reason to keep using it if the handset still performs well.

However, compatibility does not mean feature parity.

An iPhone 11 will run iOS 27, but it does not meet Apple's hardware requirements for Apple Intelligence and Siri AI.

That creates an important new distinction between an iPhone being software-supported and being capable of Apple's latest high-profile features.

Will iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 get iOS 27?

Yes.

The full iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 families remain supported.

That includes models such as the:

iPhone 12 mini

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max

iPhone 13 mini

iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max

The continued inclusion of the mini models is particularly useful for owners because Apple no longer sells a current iPhone in that compact format.

A well-kept iPhone 13 mini, for example, can still appeal to somebody who specifically wants a genuinely small iPhone rather than the larger screens that dominate Apple's newer range.

However, like the iPhone 11 family, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models do not qualify for the new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI feature set.

So although they remain current enough for iOS 27, there is now a clearer technological gap between these phones and Apple's newer devices.

Will iPhone 14 get iOS 27?

Yes. Every iPhone 14 model is on Apple's iOS 27 compatibility list.

That includes:

iPhone 14 · iPhone 14 Plus · iPhone 14 Pro · iPhone 14 Pro Max

For many owners, these phones remain more than capable enough for normal use.

However, there is an increasingly important point for the used-iPhone market: even the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max do not meet Apple's stated hardware requirements for the new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI experiences.

That does not suddenly make an iPhone 14 obsolete.

Far from it.

It does mean that someone comparing a used iPhone 14 Pro with a newer iPhone may increasingly consider AI support alongside familiar factors such as camera quality, storage, battery health and price.

Will the iPhone 15 get iOS 27?

Yes. All four iPhone 15 models support iOS 27.

However, this generation contains one of the most important dividing lines in Apple's current range.

ModeliOS 27Apple Intelligence / Siri AI
iPhone 15YesNo
iPhone 15 PlusYesNo
iPhone 15 ProYesYes
iPhone 15 Pro MaxYesYes

The standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will therefore receive iOS 27, but Apple does not list them as supported devices for the new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max do qualify.

This difference could become increasingly relevant in the refurbished market because two phones from the same generation can offer substantially different access to Apple's newer software features.

A buyer considering a second-hand iPhone 15 may therefore look beyond colour, screen size and storage and ask whether moving up to the Pro is worth the difference.

Which iPhones get Apple Intelligence and Siri AI in iOS 27?

This is where iOS 27 becomes more complicated.

Apple says the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI will be available on:

iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, plus iPhone 16 models and later.

In practical terms, the dividing line looks like this:

iPhone 12 seriesYesNo
iPhone 13 seriesYesNo
iPhone 14 seriesYesNo
iPhone 15YesNo
iPhone 15 PlusYesNo

You can check Apple's latest requirements in its WWDC26 Apple Intelligence announcement.

This is arguably more important for resale than the basic iOS compatibility list.

What is Siri AI?

Apple describes Siri AI as an entirely new version of Siri powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence.

The company says the new system can use personal context, work more deeply across apps and answer broader questions. Apple has also announced a dedicated Siri app and new intelligence features for areas including Photos, Safari, Messages and Mail.

Apple's iOS 27 preview says iOS 27 itself is coming this autumn, while Siri AI in English is due later in the year.

The precise importance of those features will vary hugely from one owner to another.

Some people will care a great deal about AI features. Others simply want an iPhone that remains secure, reliable and compatible with their normal apps.

That is why the absence of Apple Intelligence should not automatically be treated as a reason to replace a perfectly good iPhone.

For resale, though, it creates another differentiator between generations.

Does iOS 27 support increase an iPhone's resale value?

Software support can help preserve an iPhone's usefulness, but it does not automatically make the phone more valuable.

An iPhone's resale price depends on many things at once.

The model still matters. So does storage. Battery condition matters. Cosmetic wear matters. Broken cameras, damaged glass or Face ID problems can matter considerably more than a software-update announcement.

However, software support affects the bigger picture.

A buyer considering an older used iPhone generally wants to know that it still has useful life left. An official place on the latest iOS compatibility list helps answer that question.

The iPhone 11 retaining iOS 27 support, for example, is more reassuring than a situation in which Apple had just removed it from the current OS entirely.

That does not mean an iPhone 11 suddenly becomes more valuable because iOS 27 exists.

Rather, continued support helps prevent the device from crossing another psychological boundary towards obsolescence.

Could Apple Intelligence support affect used iPhone prices?

Potentially, yes, although it is too simplistic to claim that every non-AI iPhone will suddenly lose value.

Think of Apple Intelligence as an additional feature tier.

For years, used-iPhone buyers have compared:

storage, camera capability, battery health, display size, chip performance and price.

Now they may also compare AI capability.

That is particularly relevant around the iPhone 15 generation because the standard and Pro versions sit on opposite sides of Apple's current Apple Intelligence cut-off.

Someone comparing two used handsets might decide that an iPhone 15 Pro is worth paying more for because it qualifies for Apple's newer intelligence features.

Another buyer might prefer the cheaper iPhone 15 because they simply do not care about AI.

Used-device markets work precisely because different buyers value different things.

The important point is that Apple Intelligence compatibility has become another specification worth knowing before you sell.

Should you sell an older iPhone because it does not get Apple Intelligence?

Not solely for that reason.

If your current phone:

still performs well;

has decent battery health;

runs the apps you need;

remains on Apple's current software list;

then upgrading just to obtain AI features may not make financial sense for you.

On the other hand, if you were already considering an upgrade, the iOS 27 announcement gives you useful information.

An owner of an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14 now knows that the handset remains compatible with iOS 27, but also that Apple's headline intelligence features are moving beyond what that hardware can support.

At that point the decision becomes less about panic and more about timing.

If you expect to upgrade within the next six or twelve months anyway, it may be worth finding out what your existing handset is worth before another cycle of new hardware changes used-device pricing.

Our guide to the best time to sell an iPhone in the UK looks at that question in more detail.

Does downloading iOS 27 itself make your iPhone worth more?

Not necessarily.

Installing the newest version of iOS does not automatically increase a trade-in offer.

A buyer is usually far more interested in whether the phone can legitimately run supported software than whether you personally installed the update yesterday.

In fact, if you are preparing to sell very soon, there is little reason to obsess over updating purely for resale.

More important factors include:

the exact model, storage capacity, battery condition, cosmetic grade and whether all major functions work correctly.

If you are unsure exactly which variant you own, use our guide to checking your iPhone model and storage before selling.

What matters more than iOS 27 when valuing an older iPhone?

Software support matters, but physical condition usually has a more immediate effect on an individual handset's value.

Consider two identical iPhone 13 devices.

One has a clean screen, strong battery, working Face ID and very little cosmetic wear.

The other has cracked rear glass, a tired battery and a damaged camera lens.

Both support exactly the same version of iOS.

Yet their resale values can be very different.

Battery health is particularly worth checking before you sell. Sell My iPhone's current FAQs explain that battery condition can affect the final valuation, while our separate guide looks at how iPhone battery health affects resale value.

If your phone has physical damage instead, see How to Price a Broken iPhone in the UK.

Should you sell before Apple's next iPhone launch?

This is where the timing of iOS 27 becomes especially relevant.

Apple has confirmed the software update for autumn 2026. That period also sits within the company's usual annual iPhone cycle.

However, it is important not to treat unannounced future hardware as confirmed.

As of 20 August 2026, Apple has published official information about iOS 27 and its supported devices, but this article does not rely on rumours about unreleased iPhones.

From a resale perspective, the general principle is enough.

Newer devices entering the market tend to make buyers reassess what older generations are worth. More used phones can also come onto the market as existing owners upgrade.

Therefore, if you already know you intend to replace an older phone soon, there is a sensible argument for checking its current value rather than waiting indefinitely.

That is different from saying everybody should rush to sell.

If you still need the phone, keep using it.

If it is already sitting in a drawer, though, waiting rarely makes the hardware newer.

Which iPhones look particularly interesting after the iOS 27 announcement?

A few generations stand out.

iPhone 11: old, but still supported

The iPhone 11 family remains on the official iOS 27 list.

That gives these devices continued practical relevance despite their age.

An iPhone 11 in good working order may therefore remain useful as a main handset, a secondary phone or a lower-cost refurbished option.

However, owners should remember that age brings other considerations, especially battery wear and physical condition.

iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini: still very usable

The iPhone 13 generation occupies an interesting middle ground.

It remains supported by iOS 27 and is modern enough for ordinary day-to-day use, while the iPhone 13 mini offers a form factor that Apple no longer sells in its current line-up.

The major limitation is Apple Intelligence support.

If that matters to you, moving to newer hardware becomes more attractive.

If it does not, there may be no pressing software reason to abandon an otherwise healthy iPhone 13.

iPhone 14 Pro: premium hardware without the latest AI

The iPhone 14 Pro remains a capable premium handset, but it sits outside Apple's current Apple Intelligence requirement.

That makes it a good example of why “Pro” does not automatically mean “gets every future feature”.

For used buyers, price will matter. A well-priced iPhone 14 Pro may still be far more attractive than paying considerably more for functionality the buyer does not need.

iPhone 15 Pro: an important dividing line

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are particularly interesting because they are the oldest iPhones Apple currently lists for its new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI capabilities.

That could help these models remain attractive in the used market compared with the standard iPhone 15.

Again, it does not guarantee future prices.

It does give buyers another reason to distinguish between two devices from the same generation.

My iPhone does not support Apple Intelligence. Is it obsolete?

No.

This is one of the easiest conclusions to get wrong.

An iPhone can lack Apple Intelligence support while still receiving iOS 27.

For example:

iPhone 11 → iOS 27 supported, Apple Intelligence unsupported.

iPhone 13 → iOS 27 supported, Apple Intelligence unsupported.

iPhone 14 Pro → iOS 27 supported, Apple Intelligence unsupported.

Those phones do not become useless because they cannot run every new AI feature.

They can still perform the everyday jobs people actually use smartphones for.

What changes is their position relative to newer hardware.

Over time, differences in features can influence buyer preference. That is normal in any technology market.

What if your iPhone is too old for iOS 27?

If your device does not appear on Apple's official iOS 27 compatibility list, you have three broad choices.

You can continue using it while it still meets your needs and remains safe to use. You can keep it as a secondary device. Or you can investigate whether it still has resale or recycling value.

Do not assume an older handset is automatically worthless.

Even devices with limited resale value may still have reusable components or a responsible recycling route.

Sell My iPhone says it accepts a wide range of working and damaged devices and may also recycle devices that no longer have a commercial value.

You can search for your device here rather than guessing.

Sell My iPhone buys more than iPhones

Despite the name, Sell My iPhone is not restricted to Apple phones.

The current site includes devices across categories such as:

Android phones, tablets, smartwatches and audio products, alongside iPhones.

Its live catalogue includes devices from manufacturers such as Samsung, Google, OnePlus, Nothing and OPPO, as well as Apple iPads, Apple Watches and AirPods.

That can be useful if an upgrade leaves you with more than one unused device.

For example, somebody moving to a new phone might also have an older tablet or smartwatch sitting unused.

Rather than viewing each old device as clutter, it is worth checking whether it still has a trade-in value.

Search the Sell My iPhone device catalogue to see whether your device is listed.

What should you do before selling an iPhone after upgrading?

Do not send the old handset away the moment your new phone arrives.

First, make sure your data has transferred correctly.

Then check that photographs, messages, authenticator apps, banking access and anything else important are working on the replacement phone.

Once you are satisfied, remove your Apple Account and Find My correctly, erase your personal data and prepare the handset for postage.

Sell My iPhone has a device preparation guide covering the process.

There is also a separate guide explaining how to remove iCloud before trade-in.

For a broader upgrade checklist, read What to Do Before Upgrading to a New iPhone.

Should you sell now or wait for iOS 27?

There is no single answer for everybody.

If you are happy with your phone and intend to keep it, the fact that iOS 27 is coming is not a reason to sell.

If your iPhone is supported, that may actually strengthen the case for keeping it for longer.

However, if you already intend to upgrade, the announcement gives you more information about where your handset sits in Apple's current hierarchy.

An iPhone 13 owner now knows the phone remains supported but misses the latest Apple Intelligence tier.

An iPhone 15 Pro owner knows the handset remains within both the iOS 27 and Apple Intelligence groups.

An iPhone 11 owner knows that even a much older device has survived another major compatibility cycle.

The best decision comes down to what you use, what you want next and what your existing device is worth today.

Practical rule: Do not sell simply because a new software version exists. Sell when you no longer need the handset, when the upgrade genuinely matters to you, or when keeping an unused device means watching its resale value gradually decline.

How to check what your current iPhone is worth

Start with the details that actually determine which device you have.

Check:

Settings → General → About

Confirm the model and storage, then inspect the phone's physical condition and battery health.

You can then search for your device on Sell My iPhone and see whether there is a current valuation available.

Sell My iPhone's FAQs explain that quoted prices are currently held for 14 days, provided the device received matches the grade and condition described.

That means it makes sense to request a quote when you are realistically ready to send the device, rather than valuing it months before you intend to sell.

Frequently asked questions

iOS 27 compatibility

Will iPhone 11 get iOS 27?

Yes. Apple officially lists the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max as compatible with iOS 27.

Will iPhone 12 get iOS 27?

Yes. The iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max are all on Apple's official compatibility list.

Will iPhone 13 get iOS 27?

Yes. Apple lists the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max as supported.

Will iPhone 14 get iOS 27?

Yes. All four iPhone 14 models support iOS 27.

Will iPhone 15 get iOS 27?

Yes. The iPhone 15, 15 Plus, 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max all support iOS 27. However, only the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max qualify for Apple's new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features.

Apple Intelligence and upgrading

Which is the oldest iPhone that gets Apple Intelligence with iOS 27?

Apple lists the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max as the oldest iPhones supported for the new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI features. iPhone 16 models and later are also supported.

Does the normal iPhone 15 get Apple Intelligence?

No. Apple lists the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus as compatible with iOS 27, but not with the new Apple Intelligence and Siri AI hardware requirements.

Is an iPhone without Apple Intelligence still worth buying or keeping?

Potentially, yes. Apple Intelligence is only one part of an iPhone's usefulness. An older model may still run iOS 27, support everyday apps and offer good value for somebody who does not need the latest AI features.

Selling an older iPhone

Will iOS 27 make my old iPhone worth more?

Not automatically. Continued software support can help maintain an older phone's usefulness, but actual resale value still depends heavily on model, storage, battery health, cosmetic condition and functionality.

Should I sell my iPhone before iOS 27 launches?

Only if you were already considering selling or upgrading. There is little reason to replace a phone you are happy with simply because a new iOS version is coming. However, an unused handset normally does not become more valuable by sitting in a drawer.

Can I sell an iPhone that no longer receives the newest iOS?

Potentially, yes. Older phones may still have resale, repair or recycling value. Search for the exact handset rather than assuming it is worthless.

The bottom line

Apple's iOS 27 compatibility list is good news for owners of older iPhones.

The iPhone 11 family remains supported, as do the iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone 14 and the entire iPhone 15 range.

However, iOS 27 compatibility and Apple Intelligence compatibility are now two different things.

That distinction is likely to matter increasingly when people compare used iPhones.

An iPhone 13 can still run Apple's latest operating system but cannot access the new Apple Intelligence tier. The same is true of the iPhone 14 range and the standard iPhone 15.

By contrast, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max sit inside Apple's current AI-support window.

None of that means you need to rush out and replace a perfectly good phone.

Instead, use the announcement as useful information.

If your existing iPhone still does everything you need, keep using it.

If you were already planning an upgrade, check what the handset is worth while it remains in good condition rather than leaving it unused indefinitely.
